Gillian’s Approach to Counselling

Gillian draws on her years of experience and extensive training in many areas of clinical practice to help her clients transform their lives and relationships. Gillian approaches her role as  therapist from the belief that healing is always possible and that our natural state is one of mental, physical , emotional and spiritual health. Gillian believes that counselling is about restoring this natural balance by creating the right conditions:  a safe, nurturing environment, guiding clients back to their own innate internal and external resources, identifying and removing obstacles that obstruct this process. These might be things like identifying and replacing unhelpful habitual patterns of thinking and reacting, transforming  trauma related psychological wounds, learning to set boundaries to create healthier relationships, learning to read our emotions as information which guide us towards meeting our needs for belonging, security, sense of mastery over our lives and fulfilling our goals and dreams. Gillian teaches her clients what she has learnt from her teachers so that there is a ripple effect of healing that extends out into her clients’ families and communities.

That’s how the light gets in” Leonard Cohen
